NRM MPs approve Creation of Tororo City
The NRM parliamentary caucus has approved the split of Tororo district into 3 districts and also okayed the creation of Tororo City. The new city will have 2 divisions if passed by parliament Love Radio has learned.
Tororo district currently has 609,939 residents. Early this year, government had stated they would not be creating any new administrative units but its not clear what caused this U-turn.
Government also plans to curve Bughendera District out of the current Bundibugyo district. Government chief whip Hamson Obua told journalists that the move was informed by a report presented by local government minister Raphael Magyezi.
Political analysts say this move might be politically motivated to get votes in the forthcoming elections. With a promise for closer service delivery, its expected that the party will sweep the new administrative units with votes for both the president and members of parliament.
